ABSync allows you to share your Address Book between your Macs without thinking. Just install it on your stations, subscribe to local Address book and synchronization will automatically happen.

ABSync is :

Address Book Synchronization

  1. Privacy safe because contacts stay on your local macs. No third party server.

  2. Transparent for you because a permanent agent listens to your Address Book updates and synchronizes subscribed clients in real time.

  3. Able to synchronize asynchronously if subscribed clients are not online.

  4. CPU and memory light because the agent does nothing until you makes changes on your Address Book ;  when a change is detected, only the updated cards are transmitted to subscribed clients.

  5. bi-directional : you can subscribe your desktop to your notebook and vice versa. So when you come home, the updates made on your Desktop and thus made on your notebooks will synchronized automatically.

Once installed on 2 (or more) Mac, you’ll see shared address books services in the “Address Book synchronization” preference pane.

  1. Red or green bullets shows if distant computer is online or offline.

  2. “Sync. Now”  button allow you to immediately run a synchronization with distant client. Your             Address Book will be update with distant Address Book. Distant Address Book won’t be affect. Only new cards or updated will be affected. No deletion.

  3. If you want to “clone” the distant Address Book, just delete contacts in your Address Book and run a “Sync. Now” action.

  4. “Subscribe” check box allow you to activate real time synchronization. Once you’re subscribed to a distant Address Book, your local Address Book will be updated as soon as an update is made on the distant Address Book (inserts, updates and deletes are replay on your local Address Book).

  5. The arrow in the “Shared Address Book” list indicates whether you’re subscribe or not to the distant service (in the previous screenshot, the arrow is in front of the “Joe” line).

That’s all ! Nothing else to do ! Simple no ?

One more thing : as advised users, you should do a backup of your Address Book before doing anything.

In Address Book application, go in File=>Export=>Address Book Archive menu to export your Address Book on your drive. If you run into troubles, you will be able to restore your initial Adress Book and won’t think about killing me :-)
